RUSSELL PRO-STAFF REPORT

RUSSELL PRO-STAFF PUTS SCENT CONTROL BOWHUNTER BOOTS TO THE TEST

Rob Evans, Russell Moccasin Pro-Staff, shown in his office with his 2006 Record Book Black Bear

Since the Russell Scent Control Bowhunter boot was first tested in 2003 and later introduced in 2004, Russell Scent Control Bowhunter boots have been part of numerous remarkable hunts accounting for several of record book animals being taken.

Pro-Staff member and veteran archery hunter, Rob Evans, of Glenwood City, WI, made history in 2008 by becoming the first archery hunter to ever place two  black bears squarely into the top 20 black bears of all time in the Boone & Crockett Record Book, (that would be the rifle record book).  No small achievement!

Evans arrowed a monster Manitoba spring black bear in 2006...at 8 yards!  The bear, tipped the scales at 630 lbs. with a skull measurement of  21-15/16 net inches  and is ranked the #17 black bear in the world.

In 2008 lightning struck again in the same place, same stand. Only this time the Rob’s black bear ranks as the #3 black bear in the Boone & Crockett record book and the Number One Manitoba archery black bear ever.

You might think that he could never take a better black bear than that.  In 2007, given the success he had had in 2006, Evans returned to the same Manitoba bear camp.  He saw some nice bears in the 500 lb. range but didn’t fling an arrow because he had a suspicion that there was a larger black bear in the area.  Before the 2007 hunt was over, Evans DID see a much larger bear!.  A huge bear!  But having no ethical shot opportunity so he went home “bearless” that year.

As Rob says, “You can’t shoot record book black bears if you cave in and shoot a small bear.  You have to put in the time...wait for a big bear...and then make the shot count when it presents itself.  And that year the shot never materialized.”

In 2008 Rob once again returned to the same Manitoba black bear hunting area.  As a matter of fact, he hunted out of the same stand from which he had taken is record book 2006 black bear.  After hunting several days and seeing numerous bears, a goliath of a black bear showed up near Evans stand.  Very near!   The bear actually walked directly under his stand at one point.  Evans waited...making a perfect 20-yard shot at last light.  The big bear tore off into the bush, growling and grumbling.

2006...yet another Pope & Young record book buck for Rob Evans.

Upon recovering the black bear the magnitude of the situation began to unfold.  The 2008 black bear weighed 612 lbs., had pads over 6” wide and stood nearly 8 feet tall.   After drying and official Pope & Young Club measurements were completed, this black bear at 22-13/16” net, ranks as the Number 2 all time archery-hunted black bear in the Pope & Young record book...the Number 3 black bear in the Boone & Crockett record book and the Number One Manitoba archery black bear ever.

2006 was a banner year for Rob.  First the Boone & Crockett class spring black bear with a bow and then in October [1]¯he snapped a crafty old 187” P&Y  Whitetail deer with his bow, bringing his Pope & Young Whitetail deer tally to 35.  That’s a nice round number!

Rob was wearing Russell Scent Control Bowhunter boots on all three hunts.  “Don’t tell me you have to wear rubber boots when you’re bowhunting,” says Evans, “the last couple years are proof that the Russell Scent Control Bowhunters do exactly what they were intended to do...fool the best noses in the world.”

Rob adds, “Wear rubber boots if you want to.  But look at the calendar...this is 2008!  You don’t have to wear uncomfortable, ill-fitting rubber boots anymore.  You can wear a custom fitted, comfortable, scent-controlling pair or Russell boots and be done with it.   If you want to be more successful, give Russell a call and get some REAL bowhunting boots.  Their system works.  I can attest to that.”

Richard Sanders of Prescott, WI,  another Russell Pro Staffer who was instrumental in the development and field testing of the Russell Scent Control Bowhunter, harvested this huge bull elk with archery equipment in September, 2006.  The bull, sporting 22-3/8" brow tines, was field scored at 381 SCI points.  (Final measurements will be taken following the  required drying time).  Sanders was wearing his original prototype Russell Scent Control Bowhunters at the time of the shot.  "This is proof enough for me that they work!"

Richard Sanders of Prescott, WI, another Russell Pro Staffer, who was instrumental in the development and field testing of the Russell Scent Control Bowhunter, shot a huge bull elk with his bow in 2006.   The bull, sporting 22-3/8” brow tines, was scored at 381 SCI points, (net).  Sanders was wearing his original prototype Scent Control Bowhunters on this hunt.

“Ever since we began testing these boots in 2003, I have worn them exclusively for all of my big game hunting...archery, rifle or blackpowder.  I haven’t been busted by an elk or a deer in five years,” says Sanders, “which is truly amazing considering the number of days and hours that I have been exposed to game in close up situations.  I am a real believer in what we have.”

“I have a very narrow foot and I was totally tired of sloppy-fitting, clammy rubber boots.  None of them have ever fit me and none of them ever will... so we did our homework a[1]nd designed a leather boot that is not only comfortable but is custom fitted to YOUR FOOT...so they actually fit!  The Scent Control Bow Hunter is  lighter weight, provides a better feel for the ground and even more scent control than any rubber boot.    AND...using the waterproofing system we tested and proved, they’re just as waterproof as any pair of rubber boots.”
