Russell's Scent Control Bowhunter Works!
White Tail Deer Hunting Legend, Myles Keller Puts Stamp
Of Approval on Russell Scent Control Bowhunter
When Russell Moccasin introduced its revolutionary Scent Control Bowhunter boot, (an all leather boot), at the 2004 SCI Convention, some experienced bowhunters were understandably skeptical.

In early 2003 Russell set out to make a custom fitted all leather boot that would not only stop scent dead in its tracks, but would also fit properly and be comfortable to wear...unlike the rubber pull-on boots widely used by whitetail fanatics. The company embarked on this journey for a number of reasons, one of which was explained by Russell President, Ralph Fabricius.
One of our Pro-staff members has very narrow, B-width feet, says Ralph Fabricius, so there is no way he can wear off the shelf rubber boots because they are just simply too wide and are impossible for him to walk in.
The first thing the company did was consult with numerous scent control experts in the archery business to learn more about scent, its control and the animals ability to pick up scents.
One of our contacts in the scent control industry told us that rubber boots actually give off gaseous odors for up to four years, which defeats the purpose of a rubber boot, said Fabricius. Our Pro-Staff, with the help of several experts in the scent control industry developed the comprehensive Total Scent Control System that proved to work extremely well.
As word of the new Scent Control Bowhunter boot, that incorporates Scent-Lok odor elimination material and X Scent silver fiber technology, spread, some of bowhuntings legends began to inquire about the boot.
Dr. Dave Samuel, author, lecturer and Conservation Editor for Bowhunter magazine ordered a pair. As did Joe Bell, Editor of Bow & Arrow Hunting, as did Mike Strandland, Editor of Bowhunting World. The legendary Myles Keller, considered to be the best whitetail bowhunter in the world today, is also wearing the Russell Scent Control Bowhunter.
Do the Russell Scent Control Bowhunters work? You be the judge.
Myles Keller reports: I have not been detected anywhere Ive been. Deer cross my path all the time and none have detected me. And these were not just random deer, but big mature bucks that crossed my path and they never knew I was there. Mature bucks are going to pick up your scent if anything will. After wearing the boots for a couple months now, I am a firm believer.
The Russell Scent Control Bowhunters have made everything more pleasant. Boots are part of your body and I find when Im wearing these boots Im much more agile when stepping over and around brush, rocks, fences, or going down steep embankments. Because Ive got wide feet, Ive always had to buy boots one size larger than I needed to get them to fit my wide foot. The Russells are custom made and fit like a glove.
Ive hunted big whitetails all my life and have put on a lot of miles. Ill tell you...these are the best pair of boots I have ever owned...for the right reasons...theyre the most comfortable boots Ive worn---and---theyre are scentless! Because of that, Ill put my stamp of approval on the Russell Scent Control Bowhunters, no problem!
Dr. Dave Samuel wrote, This season I wore the new Russell Scent Control Bowhunter boots for the first time. Russell has been known for quality boots for years. Now theyve got something for the bowhunter. I had a 155 10-point stopped at 12 yards but couldnt get a shot. No deer have winded me. Deer walked over my trail with no problem. This is the most comfortable boot Ive ever worn. With their new scent control system...you have another great reason to wear Russells.
Unbelievable!, says Russell Pro-Staffer, Rob Evans, who lays claim to 32 P&Y bucks. The Russell Scent Control boot actually works! Russell has solved the leather boot problem for the bowhunter. My insulated pair keeps me dry, warm and comfortable.
Mike Strandlund, Editor of Bowhunting World, adds, The craftsmanship of Russell boots is legendary, and well deserved. I'm glad to see a model with Scent-Lok incorporated, as Bowhunting World has done scientific laboratory testing of scent-absorbing fabric, and found it really works. I wore these boots on a Colorado mule deer hunt and was very satisfied with the performance.
And finally, from Joe Bell, Editor of Bow & Arrow Hunting, I consider myself somewhat of a fanatic of fine hunting footwear, and I would easily qualify the new Russell Scent-Control Bowhunter Boots as the best all-around stalking boots in existence. The soles on these boots are pliable enough so you can feel your way across noisy surfaces, such as loose granite, yet the boots provide plenty of ankle support and footbed cushioning to make conquering uneven terrain very manageable even when backpacking out a buck.
As a bonus, the boots are custom made to fit, so not only will your feet scream with joy, but hard-walking hunters will likely end up with fewer blisters and hot spots. Add to that a Scent-Lok liner inside the boots (to keep the stink from seeping out) and you have one unbelievable boot for bowhunting the West.
